Texas Blues 2026

This project explores the tension between reproductive rights and religious trauma in Texas through a series of cyanotype photographs layered with mixed media, collage. Using personal imagery, each piece becomes a contemplation on the ways in which bodies, especially those of women and marginalized genders, are politicized, controlled, and sanctified in the name of faith and tradition. The cyanotype process, with its ghostly blues and sun-activated imprinting, evokes both absence and exposure, mirroring the erasure and scrutiny faced by those affected by recent reproductive legislation in Texas. The embroidery and sewing in some pieces are deliberately chosen not only for their domestic and feminine associations but also for their ritualistic, redemptive qualities, thread becomes both wound and repair. These works interrogate the impact of living in conservative religious environments while navigating autonomy, shame, and the fight for bodily sovereignty. The resulting pieces are intimate yet political, each one a creative testament to resilience, memory, and reclamation.
